Support — Eric's Drop to Phone

Eric's Drop to Phone moves photos, videos, PDFs, and other files between a Windows PC and phones on the same Wi-Fi, and between two phones that both have the app open. Several files can go in one drop. There is no cloud account.

What you need

1. The Windows app (free): droptophone.welchsoftware.net — unzip and run it, or use Install.cmd for Start menu, Explorer Send to, and the firewall rule (one admin prompt). If you are on a phone, email or text the website to yourself and open it on the PC. Do not download the zip onto the phone.
2. The iPhone app from the App Store (paid), the Android app from Google Play (paid), or Safari/Chrome if you only want to open a Windows QR
3. Devices on the same Wi-Fi (not a guest network that isolates devices)

How it works

1. Run the Windows app (or use Install.cmd once for Start menu, Explorer Send to, and the firewall rule). Drop one file or several (photos, video, PDF, documents), or paste a screenshot or text note with Ctrl+V.
2. On the phone, scan the QR once - or tap Connect when the PC (or another phone) appears under Nearby.
3. Save. Photos and video go to Photos; PDFs and other files go to Files. Later drops from a linked PC appear without scanning again. When another device sends to you, that sender is saved and linked automatically so you can send back without scanning again.
4. To send the other way: use Send on the phone (to a PC or another phone), Share from Photos (Android or iPhone - keep the Drop to Phone app open), or Shortcuts Send text to PC (iPhone). On Windows, drop files, paste a screenshot or note, or right-click Send to → Eric's Drop to Phone. A Windows toast can Open, show the Folder, or Undo the last receive. Pull from this device copies files already in the PC's received folder. The receiving phone must keep the app open. Use Show my QR on a phone if Nearby discovery is slow. The in-app Update on Windows replaces the running copy from the website zip.
5. Large videos show a progress bar so the transfer does not look frozen.

This is not AirDrop and not Bluetooth file send.

If the phone cannot load the file

• Same Wi-Fi, not guest/isolated. Public café Wi-Fi is a bad idea if you need confidentiality.
• After the first link, wait a moment for the phone to find the PC by name. If that fails, scan the QR again.
• Pick the Wi-Fi/Ethernet address in the Windows app that the phone actually uses (not a VPN) so the QR is correct for Safari/Chrome and first-time setup.
• If phones cannot connect, the Windows app shows Open firewall port (private inbound TCP 17890) when that port looks blocked.
• Confirm http://127.0.0.1:17890/health on the PC returns ok.
• For phone ↔ phone, both apps must be open on the same Wi‑Fi.
