Privacy Policy — Eric's Drop to Phone

Eric's Drop to Phone moves photos, videos, PDFs, and other files between a Windows PC and a phone (iPhone or Android), and between phones, on the same local Wi-Fi. It does not use a cloud account.

What we collect

The apps do not collect analytics, advertising IDs, or account data. Files stay on your devices for a short session on the LAN. An optional pairing PIN lives only on your PC and in the QR you scan. On phones, pictures and video save to Photos / gallery; other documents go to Files (or a folder you pick). Files you send to Windows are written into Downloads\DropToPhone or a folder you choose in Settings. While a phone app is open, it may briefly listen on port 17890 so nearby devices can send files to it. Closing the phone app stops that.

Network

Traffic is HTTP on your LAN only (http://{device-ip}:17890/...). Devices advertise themselves on the local network (Bonjour / mDNS) so peers can find each other if an address changes. There is no cloud backend. Do not use this on an untrusted public network if you need confidentiality.

Photos, camera, Files, and local network

The phone apps use the camera only to scan QR codes from Windows or another phone. On iPhone, Photo Library add permission is used to save pictures and video to Recents; choosing the Eric's Drop to Phone album asks for Photos access so it can find or create that album. On Android, incoming pictures and video are written with MediaStore (Recents or Pictures/Eric's Drop to Phone). Send uses the system photo and file pickers so only items you choose leave the phone. Saving to Files writes into app storage or a folder you select; that folder stays on the device. Local Network / Nearby Wi-Fi permission is used to talk to peers and to discover them on Wi-Fi.
