Daily-driver features — progress

Work from 8 Sep 2026. Not in scope: keeping a phone HTTP server alive in the background, folder watchers, Explorer COM shell extensions, or anything else that sits in a hot path and can slow the phone or PC.

Phones still receive only while the app is open (foreground). That is intentional.

Shipped in this pass

Windows

• Settings: start with Windows, start in tray, received-files folder, optional pairing PIN, rename saved phones
• Explorer Send to → Eric's Drop to Phone (a SendTo .cmd, not a loaded Explorer extension)
• Command-line --send / file args, including handoff to the running instance
• Tray: last received file, received folder, settings, status tooltip
• Named Send to target (nearby + saved phones) with push upload
• Ctrl+V pastes screenshots and text notes
• Quiet zip version check against the website; Update downloads the zip and replaces this copy after the process exits
• Hotspot / VPN address hints; after ~8s with no nearby peers, a guest Wi-Fi isolation hint (heuristic, not proof)
• Incoming files remember the last path for tray Open last received
• Windows toasts with Open / Folder / Undo (balloon tip if toasts fail)
• Install.cmd / --install: copy to %LocalAppData%\Programs\DropToPhone, Start menu, Send to, one UAC firewall prompt
• Receiving an upload remembers the sender with a usable origin (X-Drop-Peer-Origin or remote IP) so Send back works without waiting on Bonjour

Android

• Share target (SEND / SEND_MULTIPLE, including text)
• Quick Settings tile opens Send (does not keep networking in the background)
• Rename saved devices; PIN from QR stored and sent as X-Drop-Pin
• Incoming sound + vibrate + tap opens the app
• Guest/hotspot copy on the Devices screen
• Receiving a push upload saves and links the sender (X-Drop-Peer-* headers) for the next send

iOS

• Shortcuts / App Intent Send text to PC
• droptophone:// URL, Open In, and a Share Extension (App Group group.com.droptophone.app) that hands files/text to the open app
• Rename saved devices; PIN from QR
• Arrival sound while the app is open
• Guest/hotspot copy on Devices
• Receiving a push upload saves and links the sender for the next send (same as Android / Windows)
